Get Ready to Duel!

I don't want to put a jinx on the weather so I'm not going to make any calls on what will happen on the weekend but, we're all getting set for you paddlers to arrive on Sunday, so get ready to Duel!

Just a couple of last minute tweaks to bring everyone up to date with.

1. The Registration and Race Briefing will now happen in the centre of The Boardwalk between Hans Cafe and The Mandurah Performing Arts Centre, refer to the Course Maps showing the location.

2. The finish will now be a deep water finish in the middle of the bay, so no need to jump off your craft and run up the beach.

3. Don't forget the Bike Ride on the Freeway on Sunday, allow a bit extra time to come down via Rockingham Rd if you're coming that way.

That's all for now, see you all here in Mandurah on Sunday with your "Weapon Of Choice" for The Duel.

The Duel Is On!!!!

We are determined to put this race on for you, our club and sponsors have put a lot of work into this so we are going to make it happen.

So on Sunday the 20th March The Duel will take place!

No matter which way the wind is coming from on the day or what strength this race will happen! We have alternate courses for every contingency. We also have so many prizes now and we will be giving them away! Check them out on the website - http://mandurahduel.blogspot.com/p/prize-money.html

We also have these really cool hat's to give everyone that registered as well.

So there will be a race in one form or another on the 20th March.

We have also change the location of the Registration and Briefing. They will now be held at the finish line in the park next door to The Dome at the same time as previously stated. See the website for details.

We looked a lot of other worst case scenarios and came up with the following solutions:

Tidal wave: We will hold a surfing contest.
Flood: Paddle anywhere you want to, first to the finish wins.
Bush Fire: Who gives a damn we're on the water.
Solar Eclipse: Wear head lamps and glow sticks
Locust plague: Skis aren't edible.
General acts of God - Only atheists can race (conversions done on the day)
Another Cyclone or Twister - we take everyone and the prize money to the pub and random draw all the prizes.
No wind - Don't make me laugh!

Thanks for your support and patience.

Event Cancelled Due to Strong Wind Warning

We just can win with this stupid weather!!!

A Strong Wind Warning has been issued by BOM for the weekend and not just any Strong Wind Warning, a SE Strong Wind Warning, which means not only would the conditions in the ocean be unfavourable and unsafe the estuary would also be too dangerous to paddle on as well. The strong SE winds will be blowing across widest part of the estuary creating 3-4 foot waves that would be hitting paddlers side on.

Any hope of a downwind paddle on the Ocean Course is also gone with a SE wind blowing side on and offshore.

If we run the Ocean Course we would be asking paddlers and support boat drivers to go to sea in a Strong Wind Warning.

As race organisers we are responsible for the safety of everyone on the water including those on safety and support boats and sending anyone out onto the ocean when an official warning has been issued is irresponsible and dangerous.

This decision hasn’t been made lightly and was made in conjunction with the race administrators, Dept of Transport and the Water Rescue Service.

We had planed to give all you ocean paddlers a fantastic downwind race and the estuary paddlers a safe and enjoyable race, both of which we can no longer do. We will put this race on for you one day.

So we're really sorry but the Mandurah Duel has been cancelled until further notice.

Event Postponed

Sorry folks, the Dept. of Transport has contacted me and let me know that they are advising all aquatic events in the South West including Perth be cancelled for the weekend due to the significant weather event (ie. cyclone) that will effect the region from tomorrow afternoon. SLSWA and FESA have also issued the same warning.

Now the good news, Dept. of Transport has also said they will allow our event to be postponed until next weekend, so we are still on, The Duel will happen!

Stay tuned for further updates.

Cheers

Colin
